Wines of the best quality - Vintage 2020
Nature follows its own rules
Completely unimpressed by global events, nature provided us with perfectly healthy grapes with wonderful aroma ripeness in 2020 - the best prerequisites for an outstanding vintage.
The year has started well and promisingly with mild February and March days and a sunny Easter. The positive effect: Vegetation was about two weeks ahead of schedule, but was slowed down by lower temperatures and some late frosts in mid-May. Also in June, the cool and wet weather slowed down the blossoming of the vines. Fortunately, fruit set was promising and the vines performed well. Prolonged drought and high temperatures in July and August caused problems for our vines in some locations. As often before, the oldest vines impressed us with their deep roots and huge resistance.
Very warm with cooler phases, sometimes too dry
Our grape harvest began in early September with the picking of grapes for rosé and red wine, followed by the grapes for the base sparkling wines. We started the main harvest of our Riesling grapes by the end of September. Due to the cool weather and the slow ripening in the fall, we had to show patience and keep a close eye on the development or our plots to bring the last decisive ripeness to the vine. At the end of October, we were finally able to pick our best - the well-matured late harvest.
Thanks to our cellar master Johannes Becker and Stefan Meuren, who is responsible for the care of our vineyard areas as vineyard manager, that both coordinated together in detail, we were able to succeed in the challenges of this wine-making year. In this way, we fully exploit the quality potential of each individual plot.
The 2020 vintage has produced fine-nerved wines with brilliant minerality - typical Mosel classics in the best sense!
We look forward to hearing your opinion as a wine lover!
