Piesporter Goldtröpfchen
"Nibbling grapes with the nymphs."
Daniel Deckers
Piesport lies in an impressive south-facing, U-shaped Mosel River bend. The ideal exposure is like an open amphitheater. At one end of the large slope is the steep part, called Moselloreley (after the better known Loreley in the Middle Rhine), which optimally protects the vines of this large site from the cold north winds. The spicy and subtly sweet Rieslings from the deep slate soil develop a lively freshness and can be stored for many years.
In 371, Ausonius, a Roman poet from Bordeaux and a great adviser to the emperor in Trier, raved about the picturesque panorama of Piesport in his poem "Mosella".
